Bio:
Dr. Jin Murakami is Faculty of Urban Studies and Policy in the Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (HASS) cluster
at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD). He has specialized in the areas of transportation and land use, spatial planning and economic development in globalization, and infrastructure finance and land policy. His research focuses principally on "spatial (S)", "financial (F)", and "technological (T)" matters that influence city-regions' global competitiveness and local livability. His current projects include an international case study of transit-oriented development (TOD) and land value capture (LVC), a spatial analysis of intercity transportation modes (HSR & Air), and an empirical analysis on real estate investment trusts (REITs) as socially responsible investing (SRI) in Asia. His previous works with world-renowned researchers were published from international development, research, and educational institutes (e.g., World Bank, Lincoln Institute of Land Policy, Asian Development Bank) and recognizable peer-review journals (e.g., Urban Studies, Journal of Transport Geography, Land Use Policy, Transport Policy, Regional Sciences and Urban Economics , Environment and Planning A). In addition, he successively served as a Lead Author (LA) for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) AR5 WGIII Chapter 12 (2012-2014) and AR6 WGIII Chapter 8 (2019-2022).
Dr. Murakami completed his Ph.D. in City and Regional Planning at the University of California, Berkeley (2010). He also holds a Master's degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Tokyo (1999). He was Assistant Professor of Urban Design and Regional Planning in Hong Kong and also working for the Institute of Urban and Regional Development (IURD) at the University of California, Berkeley and the University of California Transportation Center (UCTC). Prior to jumping into global markets, he had extensive working experiences with intercity highway planning, economic development analysis, environmental impact assessment, and public relations in the government sector of Japan.
